CHRISTINE IRONS portrays Agnetha in lead vocals. Christine’s love for singing started very young, when she really did sing before she could talk! By high school she was the lead singer for the stage band performances and was a member of an acapella quintet, grounding her roots firmly in jazz and all its complexities. Singing has always been an essential part of Christine’s world, no matter where her life should lead her. In addition to being the lead vocalist for a number of Toronto-based classic rock bands, her bright and agile voice has been enjoyed by audiences small and large, from local theater productions to Popes, Prime Ministers and 350,000 person events. Her favourite ABBA song is Slipping Through My Fingers, which tugs at her heart strings every single time.
ANDREA VALOIS portrays Anni-Frid in lead vocals. Andrea cites music as having been a formative part of her personality, and as she’s changed throughout her life, her music has changed with her. An accomplished vocalist, Andrea’s musical career has taken her from Ottawa to New York to Los Angeles to write and record with internationally known musicians and producers leading to a number of CD recordings. Her original composition “I Can Only Hear the Rhythm” was chosen as the theme song for the Hollywood film “Just Write.” Her years of hard work and training are evident in her live or recorded music, with lush romantic feels and rhythmic style enabling Andrea to share her art with a range of audiences in the form of pop, soul, and rock. Her favourite ABBA song is Like An Angel Passing Through My Room for its emotive but simplistic approach, where it showcases the essence of the voice and a well-crafted melody.
JOEL SAUVÉ portrays Bjorn in lead vocals and acoustic guitar. Joel is a highly versatile and accomplished musician, with performance experience in guitar, bass, percussion, and sax, and of course, a voice that just makes you want to hear more. He developed his musical career in the Montreal area, studying music at Concordia University and connecting with musicians with similar tastes to solidify himself as part of the Montreal music scene, including power trio The Vague, which he put together and established himself, and Playing with Diana, which brought him some notoriety in the region. All over the city, in venues big and small, Joel performed covers as well as original music, staying true to rock and alternative influences from Led Zeppelin to Pearl Jam, The Tea Party to Bjork, Beck to The Queens of the Stone Age. Joel's favourite ABBA song is Ring Ring, perhaps due to the Beatles-like groove, or the surfer-style drum beats, or the lyrics which remind us about a sign of the times...no one stares at their phone on the wall anymore.
KEVIN WRIGHT portrays Bennie, on piano and vocals. Kevin’s deep understanding of music both artistically and technically have led to his success in a full range of musical projects, from the familiar sounds of classic rock to the complex harmonies of vocal jazz. Kevin began his piano study at 8 years old and has been active in the Ottawa music scene for over 25 years, always looking for opportunities to bring together the richness of vocal harmonies and layers of sound in music. Having lived in Europe for 4 years in the 70s, he gained an appreciation of the music of ABBA (they were everywhere!). His favourite song is Hole in Your Soul, with its high energy and interesting stops and starts, akin to an actual workout!
JIM IRONS is the band’s percussionist who keeps everyone on track. Jim’s depth of experience and talent enables him to move easily between the driving beats of hard rock and the energy-inspiring beats of Swedish pop. Jim’s admiration for rhythms and beats began as a child after seeing the Beatles Hard Day’s Night movie and knew he had found his pursuit, and began performing live at the age of 16. A native of Scotland, and still sporting that alluring accent, Jim was part of the Durham Ontario Region music scene for many years, doing live and studio work for a number of popular local bands. Jim’s favourite ABBA song is Eagle, loving the groove and haunting feeling the song evokes
JANICE SHARPE provides the band with supporting vocals. Janice has had a passion for music from a young age, growing up with a constant stream of classical music in her ears. She began her singing career at 12 years old when she discovered the pure joy of singing harmony in her small school choir. Janice was heavily involved in music in her youth, performing in classical, jazz, and folk ensembles. She studied classical piano later in life, fulfilling a lifelong yearning to play the music she fell in love with as a child. Her favourite ABBA song is Name of the Game, for its many layers of harmony, acoustic guitar rhythm, and the echoing play between the singers.
GUY DAGENAIS is the band’s bass guitarist and supporting vocalist. Entirely self-taught, Guy brings to the group incredible technical ability and deep understanding of musical composition in all its forms. He has been playing guitar and bass for over 40 years, and singing for as long. Guy’s musical career has afforded him a wealth of successes, from performing live country to progressive rock, as well as producing and engineering hard rock recordings and some original works on CD. While his musical preferences have varied alongside the changing periods of his life, Guy has always enjoyed strong vocals and rhythmic and melodic lines. His favourite ABBA song is Like An Angel Passing Through My Room, for its haunting melodies and arrangements.
KEVIN CHAN provides the band with synthesizer and keyboard expertise. Kevin brings to the band the ability to layer authentic synthetic sounds with strong keyboard technical ability as the result of many years of (sometimes reluctant...) training. As an adult, he focused on more academic pursuits, but retained a keen interest in a range of musical influences, from a cappella to progressive metal with a definitive preference for Dream Theater. Kevin’s current favourite ABBA song is One of Us , because of its multiple layers of synthesizers and haunting melodies.
CHRIS EVELAND is the band’s lead guitarist. Chris’ early musical memories are of his grandfather, piano tuner and talented pianist Denis C Sharpe, sitting on his lap hearing amazing melodies and arrangements, and feeling pure joy in the moment. Chris fell in love with Van Halen when he received his first Walkman for his birthday as a kid, which led him to his second love, playing the guitar. He has had a formidable career already, playing with many bands, opening for names like Colin James, Alannah Myles, and Bare Naked Ladies, and touring and recording with Canadian Idol winner Aaron Walpole. Chris’ deep passion for performance shows in his musicianship and ability to draw out the soul of the piece he is playing. He was exposed to Abba on family road trips to Algonquin Park in Ontario, and One of Us became his favourite song, finding the harmonies unbelievable.
